Twenty-five years ago, a bunch of fun-loving travelers arrived on Haad Rin beach on Ko Phangan Island in Thailand. The local people decided to throw them a party to show their gratitude. It was a small and improvised affair that soon became a well-known event all around the world.
Nowadays the Full Moon Beach Party in Haad Rin is an essential destination for many tourists visiting Thailand and for some, it is their only reason to fly there. Music, alcohol and amazing performances involving fire are the magical ingredients of these world renowned parties. They take place on the evening of every full moon and run until the sun comes up the next morning on the beautiful Ko Phangan island.
On August 28th, a bunch of us in Shanghai celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first Full Moon Beach Party by organizing a little sister edition on Sanjiagang beach. It was not on an island, nor was it in Thailand, but the spirit of party was the same!
Now, the question is will it become as legendary a party as the one in Thailand? We will see next year.
