With each milestone, the celebrations grew in scope and complexity. The first milestone, 5,000 members, kicked off at the Bulldog in 2008. In early 2009 we quickly hit the 10,000 mark when Anjo opened her account. 10,000 was a huge success as we packed the house at Volar. Later that summer we skyrocketed towards 15,000 members. In celebration, we jam-packed both the upstairs and downstairs of Petals. With 20,000 members approaching, where could we find a venue large enough to accommodate our ever-growing community to satisfy their appetites? This issue was debated for months.
Countless people were tossed in the pool, blasted with water guns or simply danced the night away.
As anticipation grew and expectations soared, we whittled away our options. Finally the date, the time and the venue was set, and last but not least, the theme was set. Karl worked diligently to find the perfect theme, something that Shanghai has not seen in more than two years. “We’ve got FOAM!” The entire week before the party the buzz was all over Shanghai. Foam party at Lotus!
On July 24, 2010, the celebrations commenced. By 10:00 pm, people were arriving in droves. When I arrived at 11:00 pm, there was already a massive crowd on the street. Two steps from the taxi door I ran into the friendly, familiar face of Shanghairocks. Was this just coincidence or was it a sign of things to come? I was reminded at this moment that Shanghai does rock and this was going to be a night to be remembered. » continue
The party didn’t stop on the terrace. Inside the old restored and renovated townhouse were two floors boasting different types of music to please the masses. Downstairs was a large room devoted to hip hop with an above average size dance floor. Upstairs was devoted to the Lovers of House. The service was above par, and the interior of both floors had something for everyone. It was truly a blend of three parties under one roof.
It is the people, rather than any type of venue or music that makes Shanghai Stuff parties so great. They are a celebration of every member in our community. What impressed me the most is not only seeing a lot of friends who regularly attend events, but encountering many old friends that I have not seen in ages, as well as the many new members who were not around to enjoy the previous member parties. Even Legally Cutie (Eva) brought her birthday party to the event. With over 300 members in attendance it was bound to be a success. Countless people were tossed in the pool, blasted with water guns or simply danced the night away, mingling and coming face to face with other online personalities, bridging the gap between the digital and real worlds.
I personally would like to thank everyone who attended for making this one of the best parties of the year. Karl (aka Party Whore) definitely deserves a round of applause for organizing such an epic event to commemorate Shanghai Stuff’s biggest milestone yet. ✖
